The idea for OFFICIAL SELECTION came as a result of Rubberheart playing in festivals. I travelled to many of these festivals and in about a year viewed about 700 short films. That is a lot. I started noticing some recurring themes and in talking to my colleague Bryan Jackson started bouncing some ideas around to make a dead-pan satire of arty short films at festivals. I brought it up with Amanda and she thought it was hilarious and wanted to do it. So I started writing. I set some ground rules for myself, for instance, nothing can connect, no characters to speak of, the story must be known only to me as filmmaker, etc. We have emulated the style and production process of a few of our "favorite" shorts. It has been a fun fun process making OFFICIAL SELECTION.
